Prairie Point and Prairie High School will be sponsoring a summer reading challenge for students in grades 7-12. Be a Sora Star begins June 3.

Students can participate by:
  • checking out books from their public or school library,
  • downloading the free Sora app for access to eBooks and audiobooks, and
  • completing as many reading challenges as they choose before Aug. 23.
Participating Point & PHS students may check out up to three books for the summer from their school library. Students will track their completed reading challenges on the Be a Sora Star card. They can complete the card electronically or use the paper version available at school.

Sora Stars should show their completed card to their teacher librarian before Friday, Sept. 2 to claim out-of-this-world prizes! Students should see their teacher librarian with any questions before the last day of school. Librarians at the Cedar Rapids, Ely, Fairfax, and Swisher Public Libraries will also be able to help students with any Sora app-related questions this summer.

Happy summer! Happy reading!

A big thank you to everybody who donated money and made purchases from this year's book fair. The fair was a big success! Not only were students able to purchase books to keep, we were able to add many new books to the library & classroom libraries at Point. We will continue to purchase new books with the proceeds throughout the coming year so watch for new books to appear in our online catalog.

The Book Fair is back in-person this year, yeah! Check it out November 29 - December 3 in the library during school (7:30 AM - 3:00 PM). Also, rather than bringing money to school, your parents or guardians can create an eWallet for you and add money for you to spend at the fair. Check out this video to get started with eWallet:
You can also shop at the online, companion fair starting on November 29 and going through December 12. Books ordered online will be mailed to your house.

Here's a link to the book fair homepage. Check it out!

All proceeds from the fair will benefit the Point Library. Thank you for your support! Keep reading!

Prairie Point is participating in the Global Read Aloud again this year. We are reading the book The Barren Grounds by David A. Robertson.

We have plans to connect with other students reading this same book in Canada & the United States.

Please join us every morning before school (7:30 - 7:45) in the Library. If you miss a day, you can keep up with the story here (you must be logged into your Prairie account to access the recordings). Please contact Mrs. Wilding if you have questions.
