If you're like me, you've been waiting anxiously for the release of Mockingjay, the third book in the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. It will be released on August 24. But these books are WAY popular, so you might not be able to get your hands on a library copy for awhile. What to read in the meantime to satisfy your hunger for the Hunger Games? See this list from YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) of books that take place after the end of the world as we know it. We don't necessarily have all these books at Prairie Point, so check the catalog. If you haven't started the Hunger Games trilogy yet, come in and check out or reserve Hunger Games today! I think you'll love!
While working on a new "Beyond Google" web page, I spent some time exploring a new (to me) search engine called WolframAlpha. it is a great search engine for anything related to numbers. Have fun exploring and thinking of useful classroom applications. Check out the widgets page. You can embed these widgets in your class websites and blogs. There's something here for every discipline. See the example below. I used it to determine that I burned 246 calories on my morning walk which is equivalent to 17 minutes of the butterfly stroke -- I think I'd rather walk!
